Full Length CODXP Multiplayer Briefing video

Call of Duty XP is over now, but content from the event doesn’t seem to stop. Everyone wants to find out more about the Multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare 3.

I posted Separate Multiplayer Briefing videos and recapped what was revealed during CODXP. But for some reason, Activision thought it would be nice to release a full-length recap of the whole briefing. For those of you who want to see the video in it’s entirety…

We still have more Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 information to come.

MW3 Multiplayer Briefing videos

At Call of Duty XP, Eric Hirshberg, the new C.E.O. of Activision kicked off the event and talked about multiple topics. Eric welcomed the Call of Duty fans to CODXP 2011, he discussed where the money gathered from Call of Duty XP attendees will be going – the Call of Duty Endowment, which is a non-profit charity to help former, on-duty, or after-duty military personnel find jobs in today’s economy. He talked up about how Call of Duty fans play a role in bringing about record-breaking sales with their passion surrounding Call of Duty. He also revealed that the one million dollar tournament is going to pit pros against G.I. Joes. Finally, he unveiled the fan-made sequel to Find Makarov [movie here] called Operation KingFish. We’ve got to find Makarov! And soon!

If you’ve seen the Multiplayer reveal last week shortly before Call of Duty XP went live, then you’ve already seen the following….

Next up, Robert Bowling, and Michael Condrey, the co-founder of Sledgehammer Games talked up how the teams at Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games have taken Call of Duty fans’ feedback and try to make MW3 a great game it is shaping up to be.

Michael talks up weapon proficiencies which allows you to upgrade your weapons, and these proficiencies are like perks for your own weapons such as [2] attachments, reduced recoil, and so on.
They also showed off detailed matchtype options – possibly for private lobbies
Kill Confirmed is a match type in which you collect the most dogtags for your team

You can collect your team-mates’ dogtags to help complete that match

45 minutes of MW3 footage from GameSpot

GameSpot always brings out exclusive footage before anyone else. At Call of Duty XP, it was no different. They were on-location to bring us the low-down of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. But what’s so sepcial about this “trailer” is that they spent 45 minutes with Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. That is what you want, right fans? Righty so!

The footage features commentary of the multiplayer segment by Activision Executive Producer Mark Rubin and Associate Producer Vince Fennel. Enjoy!

What we see so far:

The multiplayer map we’re now seeing is “Village” and it looks like an African location; since most of the characters are black – meaning more diverse characters
The perks looks revamped; the icons are different than COD4, MW2, Black Ops, etc.
Sleight of Hand returns
Hardline returns
Stalker is in, and it’s a perk
Scavenger returns
Overkill returns; new icon
Steady Aim returns
If you get hit hard; your screen flashes red, with some splashes of blood
Directional UAV returns
Kill Confirmed earns you 50 points per kill and collection of dogtag
If you collect someone else’s dogtag, you still get the 50 points; it shows at 4:12 or so – It’s not limited to just who you kill, but those who have just fallen in your team
Think of it like team deathmatch and a little bit of sabotage but with the scavenger perk
UMP45 returns; rapid fire returns
They gave the first look at the multiplayer weapon select screen
When you select a weapon type, it shows what kind of weapon to expect from that group
It shows what challenges you at least completed, and gives you the option to show that weapon’s challenges a-la COD4
6 Weapon classes in all: Assault Rifles, Sub-Machine Guns, Light Machine Guns, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, and of course; Riot Shield
There are Weapon Proficiency classes, too.
6 classes in all:
Kick – Reduces recoil when firing
Impact –
Attachments –
Focus -
Breath – Holds your breath while aiming down the sights (ADS)
Stadility – Reduces your sway while aiming down the sights (ADS)
These “proficiencies” will be stacked alongside your overall perk list when you are getting ready to roll, or when the killcam comes on
They tried another level, called “Resistance”
Assists earn you 10 points each
Marksman is actually a perk
DeathStreaks returns; Juice is a deathstreak that allows you to move a little faster once you spawn
You have 0:06 seconds to use the deathstreak
Offense returns
AC130 returns
3 Strike Packages available: Assault, Support, Specialist
Each package type allows you to chain your killstreaks; there wasn’t a name for them in MW2, it’s called “Strike Chain” in MW3
Much like weapons, you can upgrade your killstreaks with ‘at least’ completing challenges; it also allows you to see what challenges you unlocked
You can choose which “strike chain” to use in your weapon class selection once you start a game, but it has to be set with your weapon class before you start a game
Each of your weapon is upgradable via levels of weapon proficiency.
Payback returns; once you die the money comes out just as in MW2
Blast Shield is in; not to be confused with Juggernaut KillStreak or Riot Shield – Blast Shield is a protective shield perk
Buzzkill is 250 per kill
You can change sights from top to bottom – I mean, if you have two different sights on top of one another, you can change the sight type just as you could switch on and off sights – it’s not limited to just how many attachments you have on rack of your gun, you can have a scope and a Red Dot Sight (RDS) attachment, too
Paybacks are 250 per kill
Comebacks are 150 per kill

Stay tuned for more as we get closer and closer to the release of Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3 Blog is not done with information. We’ll have more. Much, much more!

Spec Ops Trailer released!

It’s been over a month since Robert Bowling teased about a Spec Ops trailer they were working on. A lot of people, including members of the games media has been asking, and asking Robert Bowling when the trailer would be released, after many tries – There was no trailer in sight. Players from all around the world has been awaiting the trailer after much hype by Mr. Bowling. Until today.

Without warning, without an ETA to work with, Robert Bowling surprised the world with a new trailer of Modern Warfare 3. But it’s not about the multiplayer portion of MW3, instead, it’s the world premiere of the Survival Mode! Spec Ops has been tweaked, flipped upside down, built from the ground up to bring an exciting twist to Survival Modes.

I’ll start with the first thing you see, this is what you read when the trailer boots up:

Survival

In Survival, you will fight off waves of increasingly difficult enemies as you earn XP and unlock several types of armories to expand your arsenal and load-out customization along the way.

Unlock new upgrades and missions as you gain XP and increase in level throughout the Survival Experience. Survival challenges along with leaderboards allow you to compete against your friends and prove once and for all, who is the best soldier.

The introduction fades away and goes into the trailer.

Call of Duty: MW3 features an expanded and an evolved survival mode within Spec Ops. What started out as a lime version of survival mode evolved into it’s own ‘life’ as Robert calls it.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the HUD seems different in the Spec Ops Survival Mode. One of the most notable is that your Spec Ops cash has a meter of its own. There seems to be two and I’m not sure what they are. I see different types of cash indicators throughout the entire trailer: KillStreak, Rampage, Flash Kill, and HeadShots just to name a few. I can only assume that if you rack up enough action, you get more cash. More money. The number below the indicators is obviously the total cash you’ve gathered from your actions.

The other thing you’ll notice is that there are new indicators – they tell you where the nearest weapon or item which includes grenades. These are usually inside armories, these indicators tell you which type of armory is close by. Now, don’t get confused because when a grenade drops, or someone throws a grenade at you, you’re probably still going to find that white grenade indicator that has been there since COD4. These indicators are not limited to just weapons, or items – it will tell you where your killstreak reward is.

The HUD has been seeing some changes in the way you know what you got, and how you got it. For example, every kill will show XP as always, but it’s green now. Not the typical yellow. You’ll also notice a armor indicator, too. Every time you get a KillStreak, you will know how much cash you got. I’m guessing the higher the KillStreak, the more cash you earn, just like you do with KillStreak rewards. Speaking of KillStreaks, is it just me, or are KillStreaks in Spec Ops Survival are more dangerous, more explosive, and crazier than any killstreak we’ve seen so far? At one point of the trailer, the gunship throws like a hundred bombs into the ground with all this craziness in the area. Such intensity!

When you get to an armory, you’ll have a bunch of choices for which weapon or item you’d like to buy. It shows how much you have, and how much you can afford once you buy an item. By now, you’ll notice a Purple Smoke, this is the Air Support Marker. It is much like MW2′s Red Smoke which is a marker that drops a care package at the location of your choice.

You’ll come to a bunch of gameplay footage from Spec Ops then you’ll see a camera angle that is actually a Missile Drone. Predator Missile exists in MW3, but the camera that was used looks entirely different from the camera that was used for MW2′s Predator Missile. Oh, and Riot Shield returns! Whee!

By the end of the trailer, we’re treated to the world’s first look at MW3 Multiplayer! As you can see, the HUD looks changed, so this is actually a teaser for MW3′s multiplayer. The map UAV looks more detailed this time around. Three things revealed so far: The weapon that’s being held is an FNG9. Secondly, KillStreaks looks like they’re being overhauled. Instead of gunning for kills to earn this killstreak, you’re earning it via XP. Finally, Juggernaut has been confirmed as a KillStreak. It’s no longer a perk, it’s now a KillStreak.

Are you ready for Call of Duty XP, when they finally show off MW3′s multiplayer!? I bet you are!

More MW3 Questions Answered

We’re still awaiting the Spec Ops Survival Mode trailer. This article is a continuation of this article. But this time, Robert Bowling takes questions from the Call of Duty Twitterverse. Some of them are about Spec Ops, and some of them are about MW3 multiplayer balancing.

CommandaSmith asked if we can use custom classes that we’ve already created, and if we’re able to unlock awesome weapons such as the Desert Eagle. Mr. Bowling answered…

No. Spec Ops has a separate ranking system than Multiplayer and a unique way of unlocking weapons in waves.

Alkhars asked if MW3 will feature new attachments in multiplayer, and whether we can use weapons from multiplayer, in Spec Ops…

Lots of new stuff. Single Player and Multiplayer weapon lists share some, but vary too. Especially in how they’re balanced.

HYVOLTAG3 asked if there’s any new multiplayer gametypes, Mr. Bowling made a short answer to it…

Yes sir, but multiplayer details can’t be shared yet.

jamessmith233 asked when the Spec Ops video would be released, Robert answered…

Its taken on a life of its own, and were capturing even more footage. As soon as I have an ETA, I’ll let you know!

..Whoa, whoa. That’s a ‘lil too much information, Mr. Bowling!

Hopefully it’s worth the wait, because it’s been a month that we’ve been waiting for this Spec Ops trailer. BENGALGHOST asked what Rob meant by different melee system…

Its been balanced, plus Commando is no longer in the game. Beyond that, you’ll have to wait and see.

And actually, this is a much expanded version of a question that Rob answered earlier.

There is no commando in #MW3

It was posted on July 8th by a user named PSN_SMOGGIE; he asked if Commando has been taken out. Similarly EdHugz asks if Riot Shields will be making a return, Rob didn’t confirm or deny it…

I agree, it is awesome and can lead to awesome moments, but I can’t confirm specific MP weapons just yet.

…So, if you can read between the lines – it is confirmed. I’ve had a lot of fun with Riot Shields, as do EdHugz and dozens others. Msikkema66 asked Robert if he thinks that the MW3 Survival Mode is on par with the Zombie Survival Mode. For better or worse, Rob made this statement…

They’re very different experiences. Spec Ops Survival is one of my favorite parts of MW3, so much variety in one mode.

Stay tuned for the new Spec Ops Survival Mode trailer.
